Fire Fighter Course

Training Aim

The aim of this training course is to provide the participants with an understanding of the principles of fire fighting both on an individual basis and as an active team member
The course further serves to provide participants with an opportunity to transfer the theoretical knowledge attained into a practical skills

Target Audience

Fire & Rescue and/or industrial emergency response team members who could be called upon to attend emergency fire incidents

“Practice Makes Perfect”

It is widely recognised that the transformation of “Knowledge” into “Skill” comes about by “Practice”.
The course syllabus is therefore split into both teaching the theoretical understanding of the fire fighting and safety techniques and the “Coaching” of the practical application of that knowledge

 Training Outcome

  • Understand the basic principle of the theory of combustion
  • Understand the methods of fire fighting employed
  • Be able to operate fire fighting equipment to a basic standard and awareness
  • Have practical experience in fighting fires involving Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • Have an awareness of the dangers associated with LPG and understand what prevention action has to be taken to avoid explosion (BLEVE)
  • Have an awareness of the procedures to be adopted to avoid/minimise the liklihood of "Flash-Over"
  • Understand the principles and practices of entry control procedures to be adopted when wearing SCBA
  • Have practical experience of the use of SCBA control and safety "Guide Line" equipment when undertaking "Search & Rescue" operations
